Religion is most likely one of the most difficult topics for people to speak about, at least in a rational intellectual manner. This is because religious teachings and beliefs lie at the foundation of our culture -- even if we do not consider ourselves to be “religious.” The fact is that the memes (sociological information) that support Faith are the same ones that support our way of life, no matter what we profess as Truth.
The reality of our physical existence, in terms of our environment, each other, and our communities, is many times put in second place or at odds to the spiritual aspects of religion, which tends to be rooted in something else not quite so concrete. Of course, at this point, many people would leave the conversation for a variety of reasons, and perhaps wisely so.
